The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence of several Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) staff engaging in irregularities, such as misappropriating drugs from the hospital store under false pretences.

An ACC team of 4-member led by its Assistant Director Enamul Haque raided the hospital on Thursday.

Speaking to The Business Post, Enamul said, “We found significant irregularities in the distribution of drugs at the CMCH. The hospital staff is involved in the misappropriation. We informed the matter to the hospital authorities, and they assured us of action.”

CMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Ahsan said, “The ACC team found some irregularities in the drug store. We will take action against those who are involved.”

In the emergency unit, the ACC team discovered that some staff members were misappropriating drugs in the name of patients that do not exist. They were also misappropriating drugs in the name of patients currently admitted there without doctors’ prescriptions, and without the patients' consent.

The ACC team questioned Minoti Barua, in-charge of Ward No 13, and Fatema Khatun, senior staff nurse of the ward, about the irregularities, but they could not provide any valid response against the allegations.
