Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the Indian External Affairs Minister, has arrived in Dhaka on a day-long official visit to discuss Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit here on March 26-27 for attending the golden jubilee celebrations of the independence of Bangladesh.
He reached Dhaka's Bangabandhu Air Base at 10:00am on Thursday in a chartered flight from Delhi, where Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen welcomed him.
Jaishankar is scheduled to fly back to India this evening.
During his visit, Jaishankar and Momen will hold a one-hour bilateral meeting at the state guesthouse Padma, followed by a joint press briefing. Later, in the afternoon, Jaishankar will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After that, he will inaugurate a branch of the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in the capital's Gulshan area before returning to Delhi in the evening.
Modi is set to visit Bangladesh to participate in celebrations on March 26 marking 50 years of the country’s independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations. This will be his first foreign visit since the Covid-19 outbreak.
Modi was earlier scheduled to visit Dhaka in March last year, but the trip was called off because of the pandemic.
