Jamaat-e-Islami brought out a procession at Motijheel in Dhaka on Sunday demanding an election under a caretaker government and the immediate release of all leaders and activists including its Chief Dr Shafiqur Rahman.

Hundreds of leaders and activists of Jamaat led by Nurul Islam Bulbul, amir of the party’s Dhaka South City unit and a member of the central executive committee, brought out a procession from the Shapla Chattar area at 10am that ended at the Ittefaq intersection.

They vowed not to leave the streets until they restored the rights of the people by ousting the current government.

Announcing nonstop programmes on the streets, Bulbul urged the party activists to join all programmes to realise their various demands and protest different issues including the price hike of daily essentials.

Bulbul said, “If torture is carried out on Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir activists to control their systematic political programmes, then they will be prevented from now on. We have come out with a demand to protect the country's independence and sovereignty. Elections should be held immediately under a caretaker government. Sheikh Hasina should resign immediately and parliament must be dissolved.
