Jamalpur Tower owner Shoukat lands in jail over extortion

Shoukat Hasan Mia, owner of Jamalpur Tower in capital's Gulshan area has surrendered today before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court (CMM), Dhaka, in a case filed with Bhatara Police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Baki Billah passed the order on Monday.

Counsel Jubairul Islam, on behalf of Vice-Chancellor of UITS and Abdul Mannan Bhuyean, opposed bail application while Advocate Shoukat and Advocate Iqbal Hossen, moved the bail application.

After hearing both parties the Magistrate's Court rejected the bail plea and sent the accused to the jail.

Earlier, according to the case statement, the accused demanded sixty crore taka in the subscription.

The case statement reads that Shoukat Hasan Mia threatened to kill University of Information and Science's vice chancellor and demanded the amount.
