Jamuna Group chairman dies from Covid-19

Chairman of Jamuna Group Nurul Islam Babul died on Monday while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at the Evercare Hospital in the capital. He was 74.

Babul was admitted to the hospital after falling ill in his office on June 14. He was then tested for Covid-19 and the results came out positive the next day (June 15).

Since then he was undergoing treatment at the Evercare Hospital, where he breathed his last on Monday afternoon.

He is survived by his wife, one son, three daughters and a host of relatives and wellwishers.

Freedom fighter Nurul Islam Babul was born on May 3, 1946, in a respectable Muslim family in Dohar, Dhaka. He founded Jamuna Group in 1974. The Group currently has 38 sister concerns in different sectors, with over 50,000 employees.

Babul is also the owner of the Daily Jugantor, a Bengali newspaper and television channel Jamuna Television.
