Japan's Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa has said that his country will continue to work for the repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingya.

Recently, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen sent a letter congratulating Hayashi Yoshimasa on his appointment as the foreign minister of Japan. In this context, Yoshimasa sent another letter thanking Momen.

In the letter, Yoshimasa said Japan would continue to work to create a conducive environment for the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of the displaced Myanmar nationals who have taken refuge in Bangladesh.

Japan would also encourage Myanmar to improve the existing situation in order to start the process of speedy repatriation as well as co-operate with Bangladesh, the letter added.

The relations between Japan and Bangladesh are based on strong principles of trust, cooperation and mutual welfare, said the Japanese foreign minister.

He hoped that the historic ties would be further strengthened in 2022, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He also expressed his hope to work together to further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Japan.
