Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has unofficially won the Rangpur-3 constituency in the 12th national election on Sunday.

According to the results received, voting took place in 175 centres in the constituency from 8am to 4pm. After that, at around 8:30pm, the results were announced by the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer (RO), Mobasher Hasan and he declared GM Quader as the unofficial winner.

According to the results, GM Quader received 81,861 votes on the plough symbol while his closest rival, independent candidate Anwara Islam Rani, who contested on the eagle symbol, received 23,326 votes.

As part of the seat-sharing agreement with the Awami League, the Jatiya Party was given 26 seats. Rangpur-3 was one of these seats.

JaPa used as sacrificial lamb in polls

Before his win, GM Quader on Sunday said, a one-party rule will be established in the country by sacrificing JP candidates at the end.

He said his party is being used as a sacrificial lamb for this purpose, reports UNB.

“As we have joined the election, there is no scope of boycotting it right now. We have to announce programmes after getting the polls results,” Quader said while replying to a query from reporters after overseeing polls in Rangpur-3 constituency.

He said, “I have received information that our agents are being driven away in various places including Jamalpur and Cumilla. Though the ruling party assured JP that voting would be free and fair, voting is not being held in a peaceful manner in most places except Rangpur areas,” said GM Quader.

“I don’t want to say anything in advance. We will discuss the overall situation with the party leaders and take a decision,” he said replying to another question.
