Journalist Habib Rahman dies in motorcycle accident

Shomoyer Alo reporter Habib Rahman, 40, died after allegedly being run over by a speeding vehicle in the Begunbari area of Dhaka’s Hatirjheel in the early hours of Wednesday. 

The deceased was identified as Habib Rahman, son of Mohammad Piar Mia of Brahmanpara upazila in Cumilla. He was a senior reporter at ‘Daily Somoyer Alo’.

Hatirjheel police station Assistant Sub Inspector Kayes Uddin said, “Passersby found Habib in a critical condition around 2:40am and alerted cops."

Habib was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police suspect that Habib, also the organising secretary of Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU), was run over by an unidentified vehicle.

The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy, said Bachchu Mia, inspector at DMCH police outpost.

Leaders from the Dhaka Reporters Unity and his colleagues rushed to the hospital after hearing of the accident.
