Journalist injured in attack by miscreants in Jamalpur dies

“Banglanews24.com” journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim who was seriously injured in an attack allegedly by some supporters of a UP chairman in Pathati area of Bakshiganj Upazila on Wednesday night died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Thursday.

He worked as Jamalpur correspondent for Banglanews24.com and Bakshiganj upazila correspondent for Ekattor Television. He was also a member of the Jamalpur Press Club.

Locals said Nadim was attacked by some miscreants while he was returning home from Bakshiganj upazila after performing his professional duties around 10pm on Wednesday.

Later, locals rescued him and took him to Bakshiganj Upazila Health Complex from where he was taken to Jamalpur General Hospital for better treatment at 12am.

As his condition deteriorated Thursday morning, Jamalpur General Hospital duty doctor SM Shahidur Rahman referred him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

He died at around 3:45pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Nadim's wife Monira Begum alleged that some supporters of Sadhurpara Union Parishad chairman Mahmudul Alam Babur attacked Nadim and killed him.

She demanded exemplary punishment of those involved in the incident.

Mohammad Sohel Rana, officer-in-charge of Bakshiganj Police Station, said that three were arrested over the incident. “A case will be registered after the victim's family files an FIR. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jamalpur Press Club organized a protest meeting at the Press Club auditorium demanding immediate arrest and execution of the killers of Nadim.
