Journalist Humayun Kabir Khokon, who died in a city hospital on Tuesday, was found to have been infected with coronavirus.
Khokon, the chief reporter of the Daily Shomoyer Alo, was admitted to Regent Hospital in Uttara where he died Tuesday night.
He was suffering from respiratory diseases.After the death, his samples were sent for testing the same night, said Md Shahed, managing director of Regent Hospital.
The result obtained on Wednesday morning confirmed that Khokon was coronavirus positive, he added. Quddus Afrad, president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), said Khokon is the first journalist in the country who died of coronavirus.
Hailing from Cumilla, Khokon left behind wife, two daughters and a son.They were sent to home quarantine, said Tarique Shiblee, public relations officer of Regent Hospital, adding that the hospital’s doctors would be in touch with Khokon’s family members./at/teb
