The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce has cleared the Trade Organisation Bill 2020 after suggesting some additions, corrections, and refinements.

The committee recommended placing the report in parliament in the amended form for passage, said a press release.

The committee chairman Tofail Ahmed chaired the 11th meeting of the committee at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Prime Minister’s Adviser for Private Industry and Investment Salman Fazlur Rahman, senior officials of the ministries of commerce and law were also present at the meeting.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on January 23 placed the bill and it was sent to the committee for further examination. The committee was asked to submit its report within 30 days.

The bill will replace the Trade Organisations Ordinance, 1961.

The bill stated that some legal bases have been laid down for the women entrepreneurs in trade organisations through licensing.

A provision has been made for a joint chamber of commerce and industry between countries, a chamber of commerce and industry alliance.

The foreign traders will be able to form a joint chamber.
