The female students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) staged demonstrations in the early hours of Saturday, demanding seat allocation in the newly built hall of residence.

A number of students of Fazilatunnesa Hall took position in front of the vice-chancellor’s residence around 1:30am in support of their four-point demand.

The demands include naming the new hall after Fazilatunnesa, allocating rooms through the lottery system and giving seats to students of Fazilatunnesa Hall first.

The demonstrators said they were supposed to be shifted to the new hall on January 28, but it has been changed.

Besides, rooms were not allotted yet as the list of students did not reach the provost of the new hall, they said.

Terming the demonstrations baseless, Fazilatunnesa Hall Provost ATM Atiqur Rahman said the new hall provost will hold a lottery for allocating rooms for students.

All the students on the list will be shifted there, he added.

JU acting proctor ASM Firoz Ul Hasan said, “We spoke to the students and the issue will be resolved.”
