A Dhaka court on Wednesday fixed November 30 for delivering the judgment in a case filed against BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas for concealing information about his assets and amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income.

Dhaka Special Judge's Court-6 Judge Manjurul Imam fixed the date after ending arguments from both sides, said Anti-Corruption Commission’s lawyer Mahmud Hossain.

The prosecution in its argument sought the highest punishment against Abbas and his wife involved in the case.

However, the defence will be able to hold an additional hearing on Thursday and on Sunday if they want, he said, adding that the judgment may be handed down by 2:30pm November 30.

On August 16, 2007, the ACC filed the case with Ramna Police Station against Mirza Abbas and his wife Afroza Abbas on charges of amassing wealth worth over Tk 5.67 crore beyond known sources of income and concealing wealth statement of Tk 23 lakh to the commission.

The ACC on May 14, 2008 pressed charges against Mirza Abbas and his wife Afroza in the case.

A Dhaka court indicted Abbas, also a former BNP minister, and his wife on June 16, 2008.

Mirza Abbas, also a former minister, was arrested on October 31 this year in a case filed under the sabotage and explosives laws in connection with violence involving the BNP’s October 28 rally. He has been in jail since then.
