Kacchi Bhai in Gulshan fined Tk1 lakh

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has imposed a Tk1 lakh fine on Kacchi Bhai restaurant situated in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area for not having any legal documents other than just a trade license.

DNCC Zone-3 Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Zulkar Nayan conducted the raid, inspecting the fire safety risks of different restaurants and buildings of Gulshan and Banani.

Nayan said, “Kacchi Bhai restaurant has been fined Tk 1 lakh, or three months of imprisonment in default. Within the next 7 days, approvals including fire safety certificate and environmental clearance certificate must be secured.

“If the documents are not prepared within this deadline, Kacchi Bhai will be sealed off.”

During the drive, officials found that gas cylinders were kept in “Kacchi Bhai” restaurant premises in a dangerous manner, and adequate fire safety measures were not found. The components of the fire safety system were expired as well.

After the Thursday night’s fire incident of “Green Cozy Cottage” building in Bailey Road left 46 people dead, police and different government agencies are conducting raids in different restaurant buildings across the capital.

A number of restaurants have already been shut down due to a lack of adequate fire safety.
