The body of veteran journalist and cultural figure Kamal Lohani was taken to Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi office for final homage around 2pm on Saturday.
Jamshed Anwar Tapan, general secretary of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi, confirmed this matter to The Business Post.
After paying homage, Kamal Lohani's body will be taken to Sanatla village of Ullapara in Sirajganj for his burial, maintaing proper hygiene rules, confirmed his son Sagar Lohani.
Acclaimed journalist and cultural activist Kamal Lohani died from novel coronavirus while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Russell Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in Mohakhali on Saturday morning. He was aged 86.
Kamal Lohani was suffering from lung and kidney complications as well as heart difficulties and diabetes for a long time, said the son.
Two days ago, Kamal Lohani was admitted to Health and Hope Hospital in Panthapath area of the capital due to lung and kidney complications. From there he was transferred to Sheikh Russell Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in Mohakhali.
On the same day, Lohani was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sheikh Russell Gastroliver Institute and Hospital around 5 pm, said Kamal Lohani's eldest daughter Bonya Lohani.
In seperate condolence messages, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed profound grief over his death and prayed for the departed soul.
The veteran journalist won the Ekushey Padak in 2015 and served as the Director-General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from 2009 to 2011.
