KEC to get Padma Bridge maintenance, toll collection job

Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC), company from South Korea is set to get the maintenance and toll collection job of Padma Multipurpose Bridge.

Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges' proposal to appoint KEC for maintenance and toll collection will be placed at cabinet committee meeting on public purchase on Wednesday (August 11), to be presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

After approval from cabinet committee on public purchase, the subject will be discussed and settled between two countries.

The largest road infrastructure project in Bangladesh, the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, is now under construction and 31 spans have already been set up.

Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges hopes the construction work of Padma Bridge will be completed on time.

Through South Korean Ministry of Land and Infrastructure affairs, KEC was requested to take over the responsibility of operating and maintaining the bridge after its completion.

According to the Bridge Division proposal, Economic Relation Division (ERD) requested Bridge Division to take necessary steps in this regard.

At the request of the Bridge Division, KEC submitted the information of expertise and experience in maintenance work to the Bridge Division.

MoU was signed between Bridge Division and Korean KEC company end December 2019.
