Physical condition of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia was not stable as she was suffering from infections in her lungs, said physicians.
Arif Mahmud, senior general manager (medical service) at Evercare Hospital, told The Business Post, “There is no change in her physical condition as she has infection in her lungs and require oxygen. Water is gathered in her lungs and we cannot conclude that her condition is stable. She is under observation.”
Khaleda was admitted to the Evercare Hospital on the night of April 27 for diagnosis after being tested positive for Covid-19. She was tested Covid positive first on April 11.
Arif Mahmud also rejected outright the claims of Khaleda’s becoming coronavirus negative by some media outlets.
“I have no such information about her being Covid-19 negative as we did not carry out any such test. Some media outlets are misquoting me,” he told The Business Post.
Law minster Anisul Huq on Thursday told the BBC Bangla that the government would decide on the application of her brother to let her go abroad for better treatment as soon as possible.
The minister said that any decision is yet to be taken on the application seeking government’s approval to let Khaleda going abroad for treatment. “We will let them know our decision as soon as possible,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Khaleda’s brother Shamim Eskander met home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and handed over the application seeking approval from the government to take Khaleda Zia abroad for better treatment.
Receiving the letter, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan told the press, “We (government) will definitely…. try to think about the matter very positively. We had already sent the application to the law ministry for opinion and next course of action”.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday at a programme held at BNP chairperson's office in Gulshan asked the government to send BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for advanced treatment on humanitarian grounds.
