Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) company from South Korea has bagged jobs of the maintenance and toll collection of Padma Multipurpose Bridge.

Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges' proposal to appoint KEC for maintenance and toll collection was approved at a cabinet committee meeting on public purchase and the meeting was presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday.

Finance minister said the authorities concerned will discuss and settle issues between two countries as it was approved at cabinet committee.

The largest road infrastructure project in Bangladesh, the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, is now under construction and 31 spans out of total 41 have already been set up.

Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges hopes the construction work of Padma Bridge will be completed on time.

Through the South Korean Ministry of Land and Infrastructure Affairs, KEC was requested to take over the responsibility of operating and maintaining the bridge after its completion.

According to the proposal, the Economic Relation Division (ERD) requested the Bridge Division to take necessary steps in this regard.

At the request of the Bridge Division, KEC submitted the information about their expertise and experience in bridge maintenance works and an MoU was signed between the division and Korean KEC company at the end of September 2019.
