Krishak League leader arrested over Zillur killing

Police on Saturday night arrested a Krishak League leader from the city's Badda area over allegedly killing Zillur Rahman Shaikh after firing gunshots at the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Badda on July 18 last.

The arrested was Md Delwar Hossain, 58, vice-president of Dhaka City North unit of Krishak League.

Police arrested Delwar from his shop at Road No-8, DIT Project under Badda Police Station at 7.20pm on Saturday as his involvement in the killing of Zillur was found through scrutiny of the video footage of the incident of July 18 last, said a police press release.

According to the press release, a group of Awami League and its front associate bodies attacked with firearms a peaceful demonstration of the student-people on BRAC University road under Badda Police Station at 2pm on July 18 last.

Zillur, who took to the street in support of the movement, received bullet injuries in the attack and was taken to local Nagorik Hospital where the attending physicians pronounced him dead.

A case was lodged with Badda Police Station to this end on September 20.
