KUET temporarily suspends 9 students over professor’s death

Khulna University of Science and Technology (KUET) has temporarily suspended nine students for their involvement in the death of its professor Selim Uddin.  

The decision was unveiled through a statement on Saturday, following a syndicate meeting held in the last two days.

The syndicate came up with the decision based on CCTV footage and other information.

 On Friday, KUET authorities asked students to vacate halls by 4:00pm after announcing that the university will remain closed till December 13.

The shutdown came after Professor Md Selim Hossain, a teacher at the university’s Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department, was found dead inside the campus on Tuesday last week.

Also on Saturday, the syndicate form five members probe body comprising of teachers and members of both local administration and law enforcement agencies.

Headed by KUET Prof Dr Mohiuddin Ahmed, the other four members of the committee are member secretary Prof Dr Md Alhaj Uddin, Prof Dr Khondokar Mahbub Hasan, executive magistrate ranking representative of Khulna district administration and assistant commissioner ranking officer of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), said a KUET press release on Saturday.

The committee has been asked to submit a probe report with a recommendation to the VC within 10 days over unnatural death of Prof Dr Md Selim, according to the release.

The report must be pointed out the name of criminals who compel forcibly to meet their illegal demands including the managerial charge of Lalon Shah dormitory, other circumstances during manhandling of Prof Dr Selim.
