Kushtia resumes vaccination with police security

Police have been deployed at Covid-19 vaccination centres across Kushtia as the number of available doses in the district is less than required.

Vaccination resumed in Kushtia on Saturday after being suspended on May 11 due to lack of vials, District Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam told The Business Post on Saturday.

"Our first dose of vaccine was given to 67,486 people. Of these, we were able to administer the second dose only to 45,051 people," he said.

"Now we have a stock of only 2,000 more vaccine doses against 22,435 people. So, police have been deployed to avoid any unpleasant situation," he added.

200 vials of vaccines recently arrived in Kushtia. Using these, 1,000 people will be vaccinated on Saturday, while another 1,000 in a few days.

Vaccine receivers will be informed through messages on their mobile phones.

So far, no incidents have been reported in Kushtia as 300 to 400 have been vaccinated since morning.
