The Kuwaiti appellate court has extended the jail term of former Bangladeshi lawmaker Kazi Shahidul Islam Papul from four years to seven years of rigorous imprisonment, reports Kuwaiti newspaper Al Qabas.
The court also issued the same sentences for Kuwait’s interior ministry’s undersecretary Sheikh Mazen al-Jarrah and former MP Salah Khorshid in the case.
However, the court acquitted the country’s National Assembly Member Mp Saadoun Hammad.
Papul, a former independent lawmaker from Laxmipur-2, was accused of charging Bangladeshi workers up to 3,000 dinars in exchange for taking them to Kuwait.
Many of them, however, alleged they were not provided with the jobs and wages as promised. He was arrested by Kuwait's Criminal Investigation Department in June, 2020.
