Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested one of the owners of MV Obhijan-10 passenger launch in connection with the deadly fire that killed at least 41 passengers and injured scores on Friday.
Md Ham Jalal Sheikh was arrested from Keraniganj, Director of RAB Legal and Media Wing Commander Khandaker al-Moin said while confirming the matter on Monday.
The blaze broke out at 3:00am on Friday on the Barguna-bound launch carrying some 800 passengers from Dhaka and it engulfed the entire vessel within 10 minutes.
Ham Jalal was on the run since the incident.
The death toll from the fire incident climbed to 41 on Saturday night. Besides, over 70 people suffered injuries and many of them are undergoing treatment at different hospitals.
The Shipping Court in Dhaka issued an arrest warrant on Sunday for eight people, including four owners of MV Obhijan-10 launch, Ham Jalal included.
