Lawyers play key role in ensuring justice: Abdul Hakim

Retired High Court Justice Abdul Hakim has said that the role of ethical and principled lawyers is unparalleled in establishing a just judicial system.

He said this while addressing the reception ceremony of the new students of the autumn semester organised by the law department of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) in Dhaka on Sunday.

He urged the students of the newly enrolled semester of UITS Law Department to build themselves as just, honest and knowledgeable legal professionals.

“As the judiciary and the legal department play a crucial role in establishing good governance in society the contributions of young talents are essential,” he said, while thanking the authorities for their efforts to create ideal and knowledgeable legal professionals in the UITS Law Department.

UITS Vice-Chancellor (Acting) Professor Dr Md Abu Hashan Bhuiyan presided over the event held on the university campus.

Ekushey Padak recipient Alhaj Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, the founder chairman of UITS and PHP Family, was present at the programme as the keynote speaker.

UITS Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Siraj Uddin Ahmed, Former Proctor of Dhaka University and Sitting Provost of Sir AF Rahman Hall and Advisor to UITS Board of Trustees Professor Dr KM Saiful Islam Khan attended as special guests.

The welcome address was delivered by the Law Adviser and Dean of UITS Law Department, Advocate Dr M Abdul Mannan Bhuiya. Head of the Law Department Rostoma Begum Chaudhury expressed her gratitude through a vote of thanks.

Egyptian guest Rania Jozio, registrar of the university Mohammad Kamrul Hasan along with eminent academics, dignitaries, teachers-students of the department, alumni, other employees and parents of the students were present at the event.
