Legal notice served to compensate juvenile correction centre victims' families

A legal notice has been served to the authorities concerned to pay 50 lakh taka as compensation to each family of the three adolescents who were killed at Jashore Juvenile Correction Centre recently.

Barrister HM Shanjid Siddique sent the notice on August 20 on behalf of the guardians of the three victims.

The lawyer himself confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Friday.

The notice says: "The fundamental rights as enshrined in Article 31, 32, 33 and 35 of the Constitution have been severely infringed on the said children by the act of deliberate and intentional killing by the officials of the juvenile development centre, Jessore."

Secretaries to the ministries of home and social welfare, director-general of the Directorate of Social Services, deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Jashore and assistant director and probation officer of Jashore Juvenile Correction Centre have been made respondents to the legal notice.

Three teenagers - Parvez Hasan Rabbi, Rasel alias Sujon and Naeem Hossain were allegedly tortured to death by several staffers and senior inmates at Jashore Juvenile Correction Centre on August 13.
