Minister for Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) Md Tajul Islam has called upon all concerned to make the institutions under local government economically self-reliant so that they can be more effective serving the public.
He said this while addressing a Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) meeting chaired by Mayor Atiqul Islam in the capital today.
The minister said, “Public representatives should always be beside people, in their good times and bad times. Their civic amenities should be ensured so that people are encouraged to pay taxes.”
However, to achieve this, taxation should be balanced and fair – there should be no biasness, he added.
Committees will be formed comprising people of all classes and professions dto speed up the work of councillors of city corporations, the minister said.
