Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a convict, who was sentenced to life-term imprisonment in a murder case 23 years ago, from the city's Demra area on Saturday night.
The arrested convict is Md Altaf alias Tuku Ali Sheikh, 70, son of Delowar Sheikh of Dalilpur village under Shailkupa Thana in Jhenaidah district.
RAB-3 Commander Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin told BSS that a murder case was filed against him with Shailkupa Police Station on September 7, 2001. He was sentenced to life term imprisonment for killing a person over a trivial feud.
He remained absconding since the trial began, the RAB-3 official added.
"He was detained following a secret operation at the city's Demra, conducted by RAB on Saturday night. Necessary legal action has been taken against him," he added.
