Light to moderate rain likely across Bangladesh

The Met Office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers in different parts of the country in the next 24 hours commencing 9am Friday.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country," according to a forecast.

A mild heatwave is sweeping over Rangpur division and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Chuadanga, Kishoreganj and Moulvibazar and it may abate from some places, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.

Day and night temperatures may fall slightly over the country.

The low over north-west Bay and adjoining area now lies over north-west Bay and adjoining coastal area of Odisha.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, centre of the low to Assam across Gangetic West Bengal and southern part of Bangladesh.

Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over the north Bay.

The country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi and minimum temperature on Friday was recorded at 25.5 degrees Celsius in Bandarban.

The highest rainfall was recorded 29mm at Nikli in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours till 6am Friday.

The sun sets at 6:47pm on Friday and rises at 5:23am on Saturday in the capital.
