Three children were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Jaintiapur upazila of Sylhet on Friday.
Local people said two cousins — Naeem Ahmed, 8, and Anjuma Begum, 6, of Bisnatek village, were hit by a thunderbolt around 11am when the duo went to pick mangoes.
Critically injured, Naeem and Anjuma were taken to Jaintiapur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Around 4:30pm, Emon Ahmed, 10, of Banglabazar village, was struck by lightning in the Banglabazar Bengal Stone Crusher area.
He was also rushed to the upazila health complex and declared dead there.
Jaintiapur upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ripa Moni Devi visited the spots.
Meanwhile, the families of the children have been given Tk 20,000 each by the district administration.
