The local branches of scheduled banks will remain closed on October 17 (Saturday) in areas under Naogaon- 6 and Dhaka -5 parliamentary seats which will go to by-polls.
The Dhaka-5 area covers the Word No-48-50 and 60-70 under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DNCC).
The decision was taken in compliance with the demand of the Election Commission, said a Bangladesh Bank circular.
It mentioned that the Ministry of Public Administration has declared a general holiday in the areas for the by-polls while it is also a weekly holiday.
"Local officials of any bank won't be allowed to keep those open in the areas on the day, not even under any special arrangement," the central bank said.
