In addition to the non-cooperation movement seeking change in the government, Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon also announced a “Long March to Dhaka” programme on Monday. Initially scheduled to be held on Tuesday, the programme has been brought forward.

Asif Mahmud, one of the coordinators of this movement, announced this change through a press release on Sunday afternoon.

He stated, “After reviewing the situation, we have made an urgent decision. Our ‘Long March to Dhaka’ programme has been rescheduled from August 6 to August 5. In other words, tomorrow [Monday] I am calling on students from all over the country to travel to Dhaka.

“Today [Sunday], more than 50 students and citizens have been killed. The time has come for serving the final answer. Everyone, especially from the surrounding districts, must come to Dhaka. Those who can, leave for Dhaka today. Come to Dhaka and take a stand on the streets.”

Asif continued, “The time has come for the final fight, the final movement of this student, citizen uprising. Come to Dhaka to be a part of history. Come to Dhaka by tomorrow [Monday] anyway you can. The students and people will make a new Bangladesh emerge.”

Nahid Islam, one of the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon coordinators, had earlier announced at around 2:30pm Sunday that there would be protests and mass rallies across the country on Monday, and a “Long March to Dhaka” programme on Tuesday.
