Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan on Saturday (August 29) said a long-term master plan should be taken for Banglabandha, a major inland port in the northern parts of Bangladesh.
He directed authorities and local traders and the district administration to take initiative in this regard.
The minister came up with the direction after a discussion at Banglabandha land port.
"The process to extend the rail connection from Panchagarh to Banglabandha is underway," he said adding that the project will be finalised shortly.
"Hopefully it'll start within next December," he stated.
Rail connection from Panchagarh to Banglabandha will develop the land port and also increase revenue collection, the minister said.
"The government is also considering establishing a rail link from Banglabandha via Siliguri of India," Sujan said.
