Low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, rain likely across the country

A low-pressure has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal area. Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur across the country, according to Met Office.

Maritime ports have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no three.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid said on Saturday morning that the Southwest monsoon has set on over the country and there is a possibility of heavy rain at many places over Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places at Rajshahi.

He said no warning signal has been issued as the low pressure was moving towards Odisha and West Bengal of India.

The southern part of the country is likely to receive more rainfall while Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions may receive relatively less, he added.

Rainfall may increase from Monday in different parts of the country, he further said adding that the trend is likely to continue to Wednesday.

Meanwhile, due to monsoon winds over Bangladesh, it has rained all over the country in the last 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded at Kumarkhali in Kushtia with 74mm and the minimum was in Rangamati at 1mm.

Dhaka received 30mm of rainfall.
