A depression is likely to be formed in the Bay of Bengal on May 22 amid the ongoing heatwave sweeping over the country, the Meteorological office in Agargaon said.

The low pressure may further intensify and turn into a cyclone, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department in a weather forecast.

The cyclone may land on the coast of the Bay and it would be named ‘Josh’ ‘Yass’ if it makes landfall on the coast.

Meteorologist Abdul Hamid told The Business Post, “There is a possibility of forming a depression on May 22 in the Bay of Bengal. We would be confirmed after observing its trail whether it would turn into a cyclone or not.”

Met office also forecast about raining due to depression and the country will have to wait till May 25 to 26 to get respite from the heatwave.

Meteorologist Arif Hossain said, “If the cyclone forms, it would lash at the coastal areas of Bangladesh including Sundarbans.’’

He further told that there would be discomforting heat on Thursday and Friday and followed by the heat, it may rain in some areas.

Met office also said, the Bay of Bengal is getting hotter due to the scorching heatwave. Consequently, a storm or thunderstorm may be created. Apart from that, some areas may experience dry weather.

Meanwhile, mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over parts of Rajshahi, Khulna, Chattogram and Barishal divisions.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours said mild to moderate storm or thunderstorm may brewed in some places of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Sylhet including Kushtia and Cumilla. Besides, the sky of some areas of the country may remain cloudy or the weather may remain dry.
