Police on Friday detained a madrasa teacher for forcibly haircutting six of his students in Lakshmipur.

The detainee, Monzurul Kabir, is the assistant teacher of Kazir Dighi Par Alim Madrasa at Bamni union under Raipur upazila of the Lakshmipur.

Monjurul was picked up from his home on Friday night on a complaint from a parent, confirmed Raipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Jalil.

"Shaheda Begum, the mother of a student, lodged a complaint at Raipur police station in this regard on Friday," said Palash Kanti Nath, additional superintendent of police.

Meanwhile, Monzurul has been temporarily suspended from his post as madrasa teacher, said Maulana Barakat Ullah, an official of the madrasa.‎

‎Earlier on September 18, Monzurul cut the hair of six of his students. The video of the incident went viral on social media on Friday, prompting the cops to contact the parents of the students.

The accused teacher, however, claimed it was a conspiracy to defame the madrasa, saying, "The madrasa committee is looking into it."

The arrest comes barely 10 days after Sirajganj-based Rabindra University teacher Farhana Yeasmin Baten was suspended for allegedly trimming the hair of 14 students as "punishment" on September 26.
