Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has accused Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar of doing everything to dishonour and discredit the existing Election Commission only to address his personal interest.
He made this remark on Tuesday at the National Voters' Day programme at the Bangladesh Nirbachon Bhaban auditorium after Mahbub Talukdar's speech earlier at the same programme earlier in the day.
CEC, in the presence of Mahbub Talukdar, said he (Mahbub) does not work for the benefit of the Election Commission.
"This particular member of the Election Commission is intentionally doing everything necessary to disgrace, humiliate and undermine the current Commission for his own interest," Nurul Huda added.
Earlier in the day, Mahbub Talukdar said at the programme that voter turnout had decreased to a critical level in the polls wherever electronic voting machines (EVM) were deployed.
As before, Mahbub in his prewritten speech expressed disappointment with the country's election procedures and the Commission's performance.
