Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday urged all to maintain austerity in all the public and private sectors and not to waste anything, including power and water.

The prime minister made the call while addressing the meeting of National Economic Council (NEC) at NEC auditorium at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka.

She joined the meeting virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.

Planning Minister MA Mannan briefed the reporters after the meeting.

“An issue has gained importance in today’s NEC meeting and that is to prevent waste…we have to maintain austerity in spending public money,” he said.

“The prime minister has given some instructions that include being economical in public and private sectors.”

Mannan also said as resources are limited, everyone has been instructed not to waste those.

“Not only prevention of waste, but also the project for the people and the country must be taken first,” he added.

At the NEC meeting, the government approved a Tk 2,46,066 crore Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the upcoming fiscal year 2022-23, with highest allocations to transport and energy sectors.
