Around 37 Bangladeshis were arrested when they were trying to enter Malaysia illegally by boat early Friday.

The arrests were made in waters off the border town of Kuala Sepang in Selangor district by Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Malaysian newspaper The Star reports.

Four Indonesians who were trying to smuggle the Bangladeshis were also detained, said an MMEA official.

"We launched an operation after our radar detected the movement of a suspicious-looking contact entering Malaysian waters around 11:00pm on June 30," the official added.
