A team of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Wednesday arrested a suspected gold smuggler with 22 gold bars weighing 4.4 Kg from Chuadanga’s Darshana.

The market value of the seized gold bars is Tk 3.75 crore, the BGB said in a press release.

The man was identified as Said Khan (42), son of Abdur Razzaq Mondol of Darshana’s Mubarak Para area.

Director of 58-BGB Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Masud Parvez Rana, said that a BGB patrol team took position at Uthli in Jibonnagar upazila after receiving information that a large number of gold bars was being smuggled through the Darshana border.

Later, they arrested a man with a motorcycle and recovered the gold bars, he said.

The BGB has filed a case with Darshana Police Station in this regard.

Meanwhile, the seized gold bars were deposited at the Chuadanga treasury office.
