A man has been hacked to death by miscreants reportedly over previous animosity in Bagerhat’s Rampal upazila.
The incident happened in Kastobari area under the Sadar union of the upazila around 11:30am on Friday.
The deceased is Md Firoz Sheikh, a resident of the same area.
Six people have been detained in connection to this incident, said Rampal police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Samshuuddin. “Legal action will be taken after receiving a complaint.”
Five of the detainees are - Dablu Sheikh, 28, Yunus Sheikh, 30, Siraj Sheikh, 54, Fazlur Rahman Sheikh, 40, and Enshan Uddin, 60. All hailing from Kastobari area.
According to locals, Firoz was returning home when 35-40 miscreants attacked on him. A man named Ali Akbar was also injured while trying to rescue him.
With help from police, Firoz was rushed to a local hospital which then referred him to Khulna for better treatment. Around 2:00pm, Firoz passed away while undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
On information of Firoz’s death, agitated locals vandalized one of the detainee’s shop and house.
Later, police brought the situation under control.
