Members of the Airport Armed Police Battalion on Friday detained a man along with 1.51kg of gold from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The detainee is Md Rustom Ali, 38, a resident of Dakshin Baghapur in Dhaka's Keraniganj upazila.

Mohammad Ziaul Haque, additional superintendent of the Airport Armed Police Battalion, said Rustom was seen roaming in front of the tower building of the airport around 6pm. Armed police personnel challenged him due to his suspicious movement at the airport.

Later, the law enforcers brought him to the APBn office at the airport.

During interrogation, he confessed that he was carrying six gold bars and some ornaments worth Tk 1 crore in his bag, which were recovered later.

Another man held with 6 gold bars in Naogaon

Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have detained a man along with six gold bars worth over Tk 50 lakh in Dhamoirhat upazila of Naogaon.

The arrestee is Kibria, 38, son of Md Alauddin of Chakbadal village under the upazila.

BGB-14 Commander Lt Col Hamid Uddin at a press conference at the battalion’s headquarters in Naogaon said tipped-off, a special team of the border force conducted a drive at Chakilam village in the upazila along the India border on Thursday night.

Kibria was detained following his suspicious movement, he said, adding that the six gold bars weighing around 700g were recovered from his possession during the drive.

The gold bars were handed over to the exchequer, he added.
