Airport Armed Police Battalion detained a man along with a large amount of foreign currencies of eight countries worth Tk 2.52 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday.
The detained, Jahangir Gazi, was attempting to smuggle the currencies, APB Additional Superintendent of Police Ziaul Haque Palash told The Business Post.
Jahangir was apprehended around 6:00am when he was about to board a flight of Turkish Airlines, scheduled to leave Dhaka at 6:30am, he said.
He was heading to Cairo, the capital of Egypt, the police official said.
“We seized 11.20 lakh Saudi Riyal along with Malaysian Ringgit, Kuwaiti Dinar, dollar, and Euro from his possession. He is being interrogated,” he added.
