The assistant superintendent of police of the Sarail-Ashuganj circle and the Sarail Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) in Brahmanbaria have been withdrawn following the gathering of thousands of people at the namaz-e-janaza of an Islamic party leader, ignoring the shutdown over coronavirus pandemic.

Police Headquarters took the action against ASP Md Masud Rana and OC Shahadat Hossain Titu for their failure to take proper measures in preventing the mass gathering.

The OC has been attached to the Chattogram range of police.

A three-member committee has also been formed to investigate the incident.

Md Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) at Police Headquarters, confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Sunday (April 19).
