MC College gang-rape: Accused Saifur, Arjun on 5-day remand

A Sylhet court has placed two accused, including the prime suspect, each on five-day remand in a case filed over Friday’s gang-rape of a woman at a hostel of Murari Chand (MC) College in Sylhet.

Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman passed the order on Monday after the investigation officer sought seven-day remand to each of them.

The court then granted five days remand each to M Saifur Rahman, the prime suspect, and Arjun Laskar, the number four accused in the case filed by the victim’s husband.

Earlier on 27 September, law enforcement agencies arrested M Saifur Rahman, the prime accused and Arjun Laskar, another accused in the gang-rape of a woman at a hostel of Murari Chand (MC) College.

Saifur was arrested from Chhatak area of Sunamganj while Arjun was arrested from Madhabpur area of Habiganj on Sunday.

Two cases were filed against Saifur Rahman earlier on Saturday. One was under the Arms Act as police recovered arms from Safur’s room in MC College earlier in the day, and another against him and eight others in connection with the gang-rape of a woman.

The victim’s husband filed the case with Shahporan Police Station.

Six of the accused are identified as M Saifur Rahman, Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Tareq Ahmad, Arjun Laskar, Robiul Islam and Mahfujur Rahman, all of them are activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
