State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Arafat says a new set of guidelines to ensure job security for media professionals will arrive after a thorough discussion on the matter with stakeholders.

Making the remark at a meeting with Broadcast Journalist Centre leaders on Wednesday, he said, “No media organisation will be allowed to terminate any employee without prior notice, and vice-versa.

“In case of any violation in the soon to be proposed guideline, the organisation or the employee will be able to lodge complaints. The information ministry will issue this guideline very soon.”

Arafat added, “Effective law will be introduced only for the broadcast media, which will be used to protect media coverage and working journalists appropriately. Necessary steps will be taken against those who do business without clean-feed.

“No everyone should make every type of content. Existing laws of the country do not support it.”

Meanwhile, journalists demanded that a policy be formed to hold accountable people who are broadcasting news and information on Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms. The state minister agreed to this demand.

The government is careful about not curtailing the freedom of expression while preventing the spread of disinformation.
