Mentally challenged youth burnt alive in Cumilla

A mentally challenged youth living in chains was burnt to death in a fire that broke out at his house in Burichang upazila of Cumilla on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Alauddin, 18, a Class XII student of Khasru Degree Government College and son of Abdul Matin of Paschim Kharera village.

Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Burichang police station, said Alauddin was inside the house during the incident and could not escape as he had been chained.

"Hearing his screams, Alauddin’s mother tried to save her son but failed.”

The fire also gutted two more adjoining houses, he added.
