The ongoing rainfall in Dhaka and surrounding areas, along with cloudy skies, is expected to start decreasing from today morning, though it may persist until tomorrow.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the depression formed over the sea is slowly moving out of Bangladesh. The prolonged nature of the rain across the country is due to this slow movement.

From 6am to 3pm on Sunday, the highest rainfall was recorded in Kumarkhali, Kushtia, at 79 millimetres, while Jashore received 71 millimetres. In Dhaka, 28 millimetres of rainfall was recorded until 3pm on Sunday.

Although the amount of rain was not excessive, several areas of the capital experienced waterlogging. The intermittent drizzle and occasional heavy downpours throughout the day caused considerable inconvenience in the city.

The weather office issued a 72-hour forecast at 9am on Sunday, stating that the Land Deep Depression over Gangetic West Bengal and its adjoining areas persisted and was likely to move west-northwestward and gradually weaken.

The axis of the monsoon trough extends through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the centre of the deep land depression, and Assam, crossing the central part of Bangladesh. The monsoon remains active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay.

On Monday, light to moderate rain/thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, are likely in many places across the Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Khulna divisions, and in a few places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, with moderately heavy to heavy rainfall in some areas across the country.

On Tuesday, light to moderate rain/thundershowers, along with gusty winds, are expected in a few places across Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and in one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Khulna divisions, with moderately heavy rainfall in some parts of the country.

The current rainfall situation started on Thursday, with the highest rainfall occurring in Cox's Bazar. This caused flooding in Cox's Bazar city and various parts of the district.

On Sunda, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 33.6 degrees Celsius in Sylhet, while the lowest temperature of 23.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jashore.
