More rains are likely to drench Bangladesh in the next 24 hours, with monsoon being fairly active over the country and moderate over the North Bay, the weather department said Friday.

“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at isolated places over the country,” the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in its forecast.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The Met Office recorded the highest 35mm rainfall in Madaripur in 24 hours till 6:00am on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting & Warning Centre of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) said the flood situation in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts may keep improving, while it is likely to remain the same in Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria districts in the next 24 hours.

The flood situation in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogura, Serajganj, Tangail and Jamalpur may also improve.

Besides, there is a chance of short duration floods in the low-lying areas of Rajbari, Shariatpur and Madaripur districts in the next 24 hours, as per the forecast of the Flood Forecasting & Warning Centre.
