The operation of the closed Kazipara Metro rail station will resume on Friday following the completion of necessary repair works at the stations.

“Operation of Kazipara Metro rail station will resume after completion of some repair works at the station at a cost of taka 20.50 lakh,” Managing Director of Dhaka Metro Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Abdur Rouf, reports BSS.

Addressing a press briefing, he said the Kazipara station was repaired quickly considering commuters demand. However, more equipment is required to fix some issues further at the station, he added.

About Mirpur-10 station, he said a committee has been working on the issue to assess the damage to the station.

Abdur Rouf informed the newsmen that following the demand of the commuters, the authorities have decided to run the Metro rail on Fridays, the weekly holidays, from Friday.

According to fresh schedule, the Metro rail service will begin at 3.30 pm and continue till 9.40 pm from Uttara North to Motijheel each Friday.

“On Friday, the metro train of MRT Line-6 (Mass Rapid Transit) will operate from Uttara North to Motijheel from 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM and from Motijheel to Uttara North from 3:50 PM to 9:40 PM from September 20,” he added.

On September 18, the Metro rail service on the Agargaon-Motijheel route remained suspended from 9:40 am to 8:25 pm due to technical glitch. Its operations however resumed at 8.25 am today after fixing the technical issues.

Besides, a seven-member committee comprising representatives of DMTCL, the project and the consulting firm was formed to investigate cause of the untoward incident and take necessary precautionary measures to prevent such incidents in future.

The committee also asked to submit the report with necessary recommendations within the next five working days.

Miscreants vandalised Mirpur-10 and Kazipara Matro rail stations on the evening of July 19 during the anti-discrimination student movement and since then operations at the two stations remained suspended.
