Mild heat wave is sweeping over different parts of the country and it may continue, according to a Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecast.

"Mild heat wave is sweeping over Rangpur and Sylhet divisions and the district of Feni and it may continue", said the met forecast valid for 24 hours from 9am today.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy falls at some places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

The low-pressure area over Northwest Bay and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal off the south Odisha coast now lies over South Odisha & adjoining area. The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, the centre of the low, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh.

Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay.

Country's maximum temperature on Monday was recorded at 36.5 degrees Celsius jointly at Rangpur, Sayedpur, Dimla and Srimangal.

Minimum temperature today was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius at Bandarban.

Maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am today was recorded at 53 millimetres (mm) at Srimangal.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The sun sets at 6:48pm Tuesday and rises at 5:21am Wednesday in the capital.
